the mini mioche way

All mini mioche clothing is inspired by and made according to the company’s values. In an industry dominated by production in low wage countries, ‘MADE IN CANADA’ is something rarely seen on the origin label of any fashion product. Each and every piece of mini mioche is designed and manufactured in Toronto, Canada. Our product is made in a safe, clean factory environment by skilled seamspeople who are paid a fair living wage.  mini mioche also believes you should be able to buy stylish, comfortable and affordable fashion for your little one without harming the environment, which is why all of our products are made with 100% certified organic cotton. mini mioche organic cotton is a more environmentally friendly option over conventional cotton clothing lines – which typically use chemicals and farming processes that are harmful to the environment.

Other ways we aim to leave as little carbon footprint as possible:

  • All of our printed materials, from hang tags to catalogs, are printed on 100% recycled materials.
  • We use water based or discharge prints for our graphics.
  • We use re-usable dyes for our fabrics.
  • We ship all of our online orders in re-usable organic cotton drawstring bags.
  • We do not ship our retail customers’ product in plastic bags, as the vast majority of apparel manufacturers do – we skip the extra packaging wherever possible.

designer bio

After giving birth to her daughter, Emerson in October 2007, designer Alyssa Kerbel realized how difficult it was to find great baby basics and layering pieces for infants. There was especially a need in this area for neutral colours, soft fabrics and organic cotton garments. Alyssa also had an extremely difficult time finding attractive cloth bibs. Too many had unattractive patterns or unwanted sayings or expressions on them. Having a daughter who excelled at spitting up required constant bib wearing . It drove her crazy to dress her daughter in a funky, fashionable outfit and then proceed to cover the entire top half up with a tacky bib that clashed with the ensemble. Noticing a niche in the marketplace that needed to be filled, she immediately set out to design and produce her own line of organic baby basics. With eight years experience in the wholesale fashion industry (Alyssa also owns a fashion sales agency based in Toronto – www.alyssaagency.ca), Alyssa knows great fabrics, fits and good clean styling. The premise for mini mioche is simple:

  • Amazing basics and fashion styles
  • The absolute softest organic cotton
  • Great fitting products
  • Interesting and difficult to find colours, including black and other neutrals (nothing super cutesy and no pastels)

mini mioche is designed and manufactured entirely in Toronto, Canada where Alyssa currently resides with her husband and little girl.

organic cotton

Unlike conventional cotton, organic cotton is not exposed to chemicals in its journey from seed to harvest. It is a safe form of agriculture for both the farmers and the environment. Organic cotton is not grown from engineered seeds and is free of any pesticides which have been known to cause skin irritation at the garment stage. Organic farming is a healthier, more sustainable form of agriculture. Organic methods focus on soil health and conservation. These methods enhance soil fertility, promote biodiversity and protect air quality, water and wildlife from toxic chemicals. Organic farming is also a powerful tool in the fight against global warming. It stores carbon in the soil, where it boosts soil fertility instead of releasing it into the atmosphere as a greenhouse gas. mini mioche only uses certified organic cotton. Our garments are made in Canada using only the absolute softest, naturally produced organic cotton certified by SKAL.
