the best baby onesies for newborns and infants
Organic cotton onesies and baby bodysuits (0-24m)
Onesies are the workhorse of the baby wardrobe. Worn five (or more) days out of seven, washed five (or more!) days out of seven, layered under everything else when the seasons turn. The fabric matters more here than on almost any other piece, which is exactly why mini mioche cuts them from 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton.
Every onesie and bodysuit in this collection is plastic-free, non-toxic, free of PFAS finishes, formaldehyde, AZO dyes, and chlorine bleach. Sleeves come short and long. Neckline is over-the-head pullover. Snap closures at the bottom for diaper-change access.
Onesie vs bodysuit, are they the same?
Functionally yes. Both refer to a one-piece infant top that snaps at the crotch. "Onesie" is the everyday word; "bodysuit" is the more technical name. The original Onesies trademark belongs to Gerber, which is why most brands (us included!) use "bodysuit" in technical contexts and "onesie" in conversation. Same garment.
What this collection includes
Year round? Short sleeve onesies and long sleeve onesies. Seasonally: sleeveless onesies, dress onesies, kimono-style envelope onesies. Sizes 0-3 months to 18-24 months. Core neutrals plus timeless neutral-adjacent shades for pretty pops of colour.
How to choose between short and long sleeve onesies
Layer logic. Short sleeve is the year-round default and the base layer under almost everything else. Long sleeve is the cold-weather under-layer. Most parents end up with a stack of short and long sleeve in core neutrals and rotate them every load of laundry.
Pair with
Onesies live under sleepers, under rompers, and on their own as the daytime base layer. They're part of the wider baby line.
common questions about organic baby onesies
Are organic cotton onesies safer than regular onesies?
100% GOTS-certified organic cotton onesies are. The certification bans PFAS, formaldehyde, AZO dyes, and the other finish chemistries that conventional baby clothes can carry. Generic "organic cotton" without certification only covers the fiber, not the finish.
What's the difference between onesies and bodysuits?
None functionally. Same garment, two names. Onesie is the everyday word; bodysuit is the technical name.
What sizes do onesies come in?
0-3, 3-6, 6-12, 12-18, and 18-24 months.
Can newborn onesies be worn at the hospital?
Yes, they're designed for newborn to age 2. Snap closures at the bottom for diaper-change access without removing the garment.
How many onesies do I need?
Most parents land at 6-8 onesies per size band in the first year (0-3, 3-6, 6-12 months) and then 4-6 per size from 12 months onward. Rotation plus laundry equals coverage.
